Writing First grade has been busy writing! The children LOVE to write, and they love to share their writing with their classmates. We started October by wrapping up opinion writing. When writing an opinion piece, children state their opinion and supply reasons to support their answers. We then moved onto narrative writing. The children wrote Haunted House narrative pieces. Their pieces had a topic sentence, detail sentences, and a closing sentence. They all enjoyed writing their own stories and their creativity shown through! We then moved into Informative/explanatory writing. We read a book (National Geographic: Bats), and collected information from what we read. We then watched, Wild Kratt's Bats in my Brownies. Children took notes as they watched and collected more information on bats. The children used the information they collected to write a bat report, which included a topic sentence, detail sentences, and a closing sentence. We will continue exploring informational writing in the months of November and December.
